Transfer Students

Thank you for considering transferring to UNC Charlotte’s Lee College of Engineering. This web page has information to help you more easily navigate this transition. Included is information about admissions requirements, transfer credits, and contacts for program-specific questions. We also encourage you to visit us to learn more about what we have to offer.

Transfer Admissions Requirements

Students transferring from outside UNC Charlotte who are interested in engineering, engineering technology, or construction management must meet the university’s general Transfer Admission Requirements. External transfer students must declare a specific major, and are not admitted as an Undesignated (UCOL) major. Students should review the individual departmental websites to understand degree progression and curriculum requirements.

Students currently enrolled at UNC Charlotte who are interested in transferring to engineering, engineering technology or construction management may seek admission after completing two semesters with a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA or a 3.0 cumulative GPA for Mechanical Engineering. Internal transfer students are typically admitted as Undesignated (UCOL) majors.

Admission to an engineering major is not guaranteed even if minimum admission requirements are met. Decisions are based on a holistic review of a student's entire academic record. This includes, but is not limited to, grades earned at other institutions and at UNC Charlotte.

To increase the rate of progression through the undergraduate plans of study, transfer students are encouraged to complete calculus, chemistry, and physics courses before entering the university. Students who have not completed these courses may still be admitted, but may have freshman standing in the college. Most majors accept a science elective, but options are program-specific. See the Academic Plan of Study for your intended major to determine which required and/or elective courses count toward your degree program.

The Uniform Articulation Agreement between the UNC Baccalaureate Engineering programs and the NC Community College system promotes educational advancement opportunities for students with Associate in Engineering degrees. For more information please read the Uniform Articulation Agreement for the Associate in Engineering program.

Engineering Transfers

Students interested in civil, computer, electrical, and systems engineering must have a minimum 2.5 transfer GPA, or a 3.0 transfer GPA for Mechanical Engineering. All engineering majors must have complete a pre-calculus equivalent (MAT 172 or 175 at North Carolina community colleges) prior to admission.

Engineering Technology and Construction Management Transfers

Students may transfer into the Engineering Technology and Construction Management programs at UNC Charlotte either with or without an AAS degree from a community or technical college. Students with an AAS degree are awarded 64 semester hours of transfer credit. Their studies at UNC Charlotte are considered the second part of a “2+2” arrangement. Students without AAS degrees come in with differing sets of completed coursework, so each individual is advised separately and a personal program of study is prepared for each entering student.

For more detailed information about transferring into ETCM please see this website.
