BAC Excellence in Leadership Program

The UNC Charlotte Black Alumni Chapter (BAC) Excellence in Leadership program was established in 2011 under the leadership of former BAC President Dr. Gregory Davis '76. The purpose of the program is to recognize the accomplishments of UNC Charlotte alumni and friends in the greater Charlotte region who have achieved excellence in the following areas:

  • Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM)

  • Education

  • Entrepreneurship

  • Financial Services

  • Healthcare

  • Philanthropy

  • Public Service

In 2020, College of Engineering alumna Marsaynee Attia BSEE '05, MSEE '08, was selected as the Excellence in Leadership award recipient for her contributions to STEM! Marsaynee is an influential decision maker who shares a desire to improve the lives and conditions of others. She currently serves as a reliability engineer at the Duke Energy Corporation, where she is instrumental in resolving complex technical issues and developing sound engineering recommendations for corrective actions and improvements within the organization. Marsaynee is a member of the Duke Energy Business Women Network’s programs committee and Duke Energy’s Advocates for African-Americans group, both of which support the company’s commitment to promoting an inclusive workplace. Additionally, Marsaynee has served in various leadership roles within the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), including as president of the NSBE Charlotte Professionals Chapter. She gives back to UNC Charlotte and her community by serving as a member of the College of Engineering’s Alumni Council and as the Charlotte Area Director for Emerald Care International, a charity devoted to supplying food, hygienic items, clothing, and educational resources to underserved communities both locally and internationally.
