The Lee College of Engineering’s NASA Astrobotics team has launched a crowdfunding effort to help pay its way to this year’s competition at Kennedy Space Center. The team of eight multidisciplinary engineering students will compete in the 2017 NASA Robotic Mining Competition. The competition objective is to design and build an autonomous robot that can traverse a simulated Martian surface and collect regolith. The team is seeking $2,000 for the competition.

In support of “Exponential: The Campaign for UNC Charlotte,” the Lee College of Engineering held a reception for alumni and friends of the college on March 2, hosted by Civil Engineering alumnus Bill Crowder, class of 1975.

Anthony L. “Tony” Brizendine of the UNC Charlotte William States Lee College of Engineering was recipient of the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) 2016 National Educator of the Year Award. The award was presented at the CMAA National Conference Awards Ceremony in San Diego in October.

The National Ash Management Advisory Board (NAMAB) recognized members for distinguished service. Professor Susan Burns from Georgia Tech, Professor Lawrence Sutter from Michigan Tech and Professor Garrick Louis from the University of Virginia each received awards as they rotated into emeritus status. Also rotating but not present at the meeting were Dr. Patricia Galloway from Pegasus Global Holdings, LLC and Dr. Bob Jewell from the University of Kentucky.
