Senior Design Expo Spring 2010

The Lee College of Engineering’s largest-ever Senior Design Expo saw projects ranging from an underwater robot to a tidal power generator, as more than 60 completed projects and 34 mid-semester projects were displayed at the May 7 event.

The top projects in the “Industry Sponsored” category were:

1st – Mower Discharge Cover – An operator-controlled motorized discharge cover developed for JMH Landscaping that allows a mower to go from regular mowing to mulching.

2nd – Multi-tool Handle for Prosthetic – As part of the Ability One Network Challenge, the team designed and built a suite of tools and a carrying case that can be used by a prosthetic hook.

3rd – Solar Power for Bus Garage – A study for the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) to evaluate the feasibility of a solar-powered system, taking into account energy production, financial, structural and layout variables.

Top projects in the “Department Sponsored” category were:

1st – Motorcycle Luggage Trailer – An all aluminum trailer with a U-joint hitch connection and maximum cargo load of 125 pounds.

2nd – Solar-Powered Refrigerator – Developed for the use of dairy farmers in northern Mexico to transport milk and cheese to market.

3rd – Rear Anti-Roll Bar Test System – An adjustable system used to facilitate effective rate testing of anti-roll bars in NASCAR Cup cars.
