Alumni Council Resources

Mission:

The Lee College of Engineering Alumni Council is a group of alumni who work together to support the vision and goals of The William States Lee College of Engineering.  Council members are active and valued partners of the Lee College of Engineering family. The Alumni Council strengthens the sense of community between alumni and current students and helps raise the visibility of the Lee College in the Charlotte region and beyond. Areas of focus will be communications, development, leadership and alumni programs and services.

Vision:

  • Increase alumni representation and involvement in The William States Lee College of Engineering
  • Serve as Ambassadors for the Lee College of Engineering at alumni events, and in our communities and places of work
  • Support Lee College students through mentoring, recruitment and career planning programs
  • Give of our resources (time, talent, treasure) to advance the Lee College of Engineering

Expectations:

  • Support the Dean of the Lee College of Engineering
  • Attend as many Council and Lee College of Engineering sponsored activities as possible
  • Encourage involvement of other alumni at Lee College of Engineering functions
  • Council members are asked to serve a three year term, beginning in August and ending in May (follow academic calendar)
  • Elected officers will serve a two year term
  • Prepare for all council meetings by reading any designated materials prior to the meetings
  • Attend council meetings/conference calls regularly and serve as committee chairs/members as assigned. Goal is to have all meetings on UNC Charlotte campus (University or Center City)

There will be 5 Council meetings annually (2 evening, 2 weekend, 1 lunch time)

January, March, May, September, November

  • Suggest new program ideas and thoughtfully evaluate current activities
  • Advise the Lee College of programs that can better serve our alumni and ways in which alumni can serve the College
  • Represent the Lee College and UNC Charlotte at community events
  • Assist in the recruitment of students, placement of graduates, and identifying and facilitating professional internship programs for students
  • Identify and assist in obtaining speakers/lecturers from the business community for Lee College presentations inside and outside of the classroom
  • Participate in donor stewardship efforts and events
  • Make an annual financial contribution to the William States Lee College of Engineering Excellence Fund in the Lee College with a minimum yearly donation of $249.00. Encourage employer matching gifts.
